My new housemate and I signed the tenancy agreement on our new house today, and it's empty and ready for us to move in.  Which means I'm actually going to have to start packing now!  Hopefully I'll be all moved in within a couple of weeks, although the first job is to re-paint my bedroom.  The two rooms on my floor of the house are baby blue and pink, so there's no prizes for guessing that the family who lived there before had a son and daughter.  And I can certainly live without the choo choo motif in the wallpaper in my room.

These pictures aren't great and I haven't worked out how to post them here in a pretty way, but you should get the picture.  The house is a kind of upside down house, so you walk into the ground floor where there is the bathroom and Amanda's bedroom.  Then you go upstairs to my bedroom and the spare room and downstairs to the living room/dining room and kitchen.  That's my room at the very top, and the spare room is going to be Hutch the degu's room/study.  I hope he doesn't mind the pink.  That room has a lovely bay window in it, I can already see myself lounging there reading my books.

My room is great, I think I got the best deal out of it all, apart from the powder blue colour.  It has a huge walk in wardrobe and it has the tv aerial in it.

Downstairs you have the living room/dining room but I haven't got any good pictures of that at the moment.  Then you go through to the kitchen, which is pretty small, but big enough to boil a kettle in so it's good enough for me!  Then you go out to the back garden, which I really like.  Just a nice simple lawn which will be easy to mow and a few plants around the outside.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased.  :D  Everyone's invited round for a housewarming as soon as we've moved in.

Anyway, here are the first set of photos if anyone is interested.   Isn't it exciting?  And I get to live with cats again.  Wheeeee!

Re: Quirky!
I'll be relieved when I've actually moved in, when the kettle is plugged in, the internet has been set up, the cats are installed and all is right with the world. It's smaller than the house I'm in at the moment, but I think I'm gonna like it in the new place. I can't wait for you to come and visit either, I'll have blue cocktails at the ready. I may have to force you to watch this new programme I've been getting into as well. Can you guess what it is yet? :D

Re: Quirky!
Don't worry, the kettle will be on in no time!

As for your 'new' programme, don't you mean 'vintage' programme!? Yes, I'm up for that. Could I come and stay when I do the next St. Nics event?

I couldn't sleep last night. I looked up job opportunities on the UCL website. The usual new student admin assistant thingy is up for grabs, and I got that feeling you get when you know the inevitable is going to happen... My life might just be about to get intersting too!

Re: Quirky!
OK, vintage then. And I know how much you love the 1970's. Ahem.

You're feeling the stirrings of destiny again, are you? It's always interesting to see where those thing lead you.

Well, I think it looks lovely. Okay, maybe not powder blue. *g* But all in all it looks nice! Good luck with the move! I like the settling in part, but the actual move part...ugh.

Thank you. I'm going to start packing early next week, my parents have wonderfully volunteered to paint the room so I don't need to take time off work to get it done, and then I should be all moved in within a couple of weeks. The powder blue will be replaced with a boring but inoffensive beige colour. I think I'll keep the degu room pink though, it's certainly something different.

That is a lovely house and your bedroom is great. A backyard as well!! I'm so glad you can have pets there too. Couldn't live without my pusscats. :)

Good luck with the packing - yuk job - and the move.

Thanks. I have three old cats but I didn't bring them with me when I moved to the city*, so they still live with my parents. I miss them terribly, and my new housemate has two young cats called Hope and Joey. I'm so excited about being in a house with cats again. I have a pet degu called Hutch who I love to pieces, but there's just something about having a cat in the house that is simply perfect.

*when I say city, I mean a slightly bigger town that just happens to have a cathedral. I don't exactly live in a sprawling metropolis.

OK - I'll admit to my ignorance! I have never heard of a degu, so had to Google it. Sort of like a Guinea Pig type animal, is that right? Does he live in a cage?

It is purrfect having cats around, unless they start using your bedroom as a playground at some ungodly hour in the morning. :) Could have cheerfully strangled our two this morning.

I usually describe my degu as kind of like a big gerbil or a small squirrel. Yep, he lives in a nice big cage with a wheel and a dustbowl and lots of wooden chews to enjoy. And it's been so long since I lived with a cat, I'm even looking forward to being woken up at 3 o'clock in the morning when they attack my toes, or going from deep sleep to full consciousness in under 2 seconds when you hear the inevitable sound of them coughing up a furball!

Oh Foxxy, I love it! Love your back garden/yard area. Nice for the little kitties!

Yep. And it's in a cul de sac, so not much traffic at all. That yard is going to be good for barbecues as well, I think. :D
